Heroes and villains took over our Academy yesterday as part of World Book Day 2015!
Each year, World Book Day aims to encourage children to enjoy reading and celebrate the work of authors and illustrators.
Roger Farley, Primary Principal said: “Reading and writing is the bedrock of a child's education, it opens up the whole world to them. This is why, at Unity, we have such an emphasis on fostering a love of books and a joy in writing in imaginative and engaging ways across the whole curriculum.”
Matilda of RHW said: "I was Aurora, Sleeping Beauty is my favourite book"
As part of World Book Day, every student across the whole of the Academy, both primary and secondary, were issued with a free £1 book token.
This token is valid at most non-independant book stores when purchasing a book of £2.99 or more!
Worldbookday.com are also running a '£1 book' deal, where the tokens can be exchanged for a selection of books at no extra cost.
That evening, our staff also held a ‘book at bedtime’ story-telling event for all of the primary school. Children were asked to come back into school dressed in their pyjamas to enjoy a bedtime story read to them by one of their teachers, as well as a cheeky hot cocoa before returning home to sleep.
