All of our primary students created a new school sculpture to celebrate art week with the help of artist Keith Parkinson.
Art week, an annual event here at Unity Academy, involves giving all of our primary students the opportunity to show their creative flair and unleash their inner Van Gogh as they take part in various art related tasks and activities.
This year the children were treated to not one, but two visitors. Visual artist Keith Parkinson & portrait artist Ruth Morrissey.
Keith worked with all primary year groups over the course of the week to create the large sculpture called “Unity”, to which almost 300 students contributed in building. Starting from the wood and wire armature and packing up with card to applying mod roc, painting and mounting upon the plinth.
The six figures – all labelled and united, represent the 6 core values of the Fylde Coast Academy Trust (FCAT), the trust in which Unity Academy operates under alongside other fylde coast schools such as Montgomery and Aspire.
Primary Principal, Roger Farley said: “"Art week is an annual event that widens our curriculum and gives children the chance to work with highly skilled artists and sculptors. This year’s focus was FCAT core values. Resilience being a key focus across school to show children that the final outcome may go through many stages and drafts; that it is ok to fail and that, by working together, we can create amazing outcomes. In Unity we succeeded in creating a sculpture that will show our core values to all for many years to come."
