Unity students and staff recently took part in a mega challenge in aid of Sport Relief 2018.
Inspired by the gruelling challenges undertaken for Sport Relief by celebrities (such as Davina McCall, Eddie Izzard and Jo Brand), students across the entire school collectively completed a whopping 3.4 MILLION STEPS during the week of Sport Relief!
Every one of our students contributed to this total number of steps during their regular PE lessons throughout the week, with some pupils giving up their own time after school to help us reach such a fantastic total.
This year, Sport Relief encouraged the nation to take in an epic challenge aiming to beat a target of one billion steps a day, every day, from Saturday 17th to Friday 23rd March. Our fantastic activites as a school contributed to this hugely exciting task!
During this time, there were three main challenges; the Step-Up task challenged the children to walk as many steps as they possibly could within the whole week, and all year groups collated their results to our fantastic total. The London to Paris bicycle challenge saw brave children cycling an incredible 245 miles, the simulated distance between the two cities. Finally, The Channel Rowing challenge required the students to row the distance covered by the English Channel.
All proceeds were donated to Sport Relief to help vulnerable people across the UK and the world to live happier, healthier and safer lives.
