Pupils hang on every word as Blackpool Zoo bring along live insects and reptiles to enhance their learning experience!
Reception students here at Unity were treated to a very special “Zoo to You” workshop, in which the experienced education team from Blackpool Zoo delivered an engaging and fun-packed session in the classroom.
The students learnt all about various insects and reptiles, from stick insects to blue tonged skinks! Those brave enough also had the unique opportunity to get hands-on and hold most of the live animals.
A few of the children gave some very interesting quotes:
Brooklyn Harding: “You have to be careful because we are bigger”
Alex Pittilla: “Why does the stick insect stand so still when you hold it?”
Dylan Pace: “The cockroach was a little bit tickly on my hand”
Harley Brannon: “The skink looked a bit like a snake because it had the same colours”
Phase One Lead Sue Robinson, said: “Zoo to You was a great educational visit from Blackpool Zoo. The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and talked about the various creatures they saw and handled. The event created a memorable experience for the children as well as stimulating much conversation and some lovely writing, with children using their increasing phonic skills”
