Unity Academy's Year 6 and GCSE Music students visited Salford's MediaCity to watch BBC Philharmonic's 'Ten Pieces'.
The ten pieces performed on the day were as follows:
- John Adams, Short Ride In A Fast Machine
- Beethoven, Symphony Number 5 (1st movement)
- 'Storm' Interlude from 'Peter Grimes'
- 'In The Hall Of The Mountain King' from 'Peer Gynt'
- Handel, Zadok the Priest
- 'Mars' from 'The Planets'
- Anna Meredith, Connect It
- Mozart, Horn Concerto No. 4 (3rd movement)
- Mussorgsky, A Night on the Bare Mountain
- Stravinsky, The Firebird Suite (Finale)
The crowd favourite was most certainly 'In The Hall Of The Mountain King' which is more commonly recognised as the Alton Towers theme tune. It was very much a fun-filled afternoon, enjoyed by both our pupils and teachers alike.
"I'm really glad we got the opportunity to go" Oliver Styles, Year Six student.
